Transforming Education for Social Justice Conference

Design that Shows Up for Equity

Skills Used
Brand Identity · Conference Branding · Visual Systems · Print and Digital Design · Presentation Design

Project Objective
Develop a cohesive and flexible brand identity for a multi-year education conference that brings together educators, students, and advocates to advance social justice in education. The system needed to hold its identity across five editions spanning nearly a decade, while giving each year room to reflect its own theme and focus.

My Role & Process
I designed a visual identity system centered on a honeycomb motif symbolizing diverse individuals collaborating to build a resilient community. Each conference edition features a refreshed color palette and theme to differentiate it while maintaining overall brand consistency, extended across logo marks, social media graphics, website assets, print materials, program booklets, and keynote slide templates.

Impact
Now in its 5th conference, the identity system has held across nearly a decade of editions, drawing roughly 300 attendees. The conference has secured sponsorship and partnership from organizations including GLSEN, the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, the Center of Racial Justice and Youth Engaged Research, Self-Evident Education, and SJE. In 2025, the conference presented its first-ever Illuminary Award, honoring Dr. Barbara J. Love for her lifetime contribution to liberatory education work, and has featured keynote speakers including Tiffany Jewell, Dr. Jamila Lyiscott and the Cyphers for Justice youth researchers, and Tem Blessed and Evelin Aquino.

Deliverables

Conference flyer

Now spanning five editions, the honeycomb mark and stacked typography have anchored the identity since 2016, while each year's palette and theme shift to mark that conference's focus.

Program materials designed as one cohesive package, from keynote bios to the PDP completion certificate.

A direct-mail piece extending the brand beyond the venue, encouraging schools to register groups of students, teachers, and administrators together.

Social media posts advertising the conference, featuring video footage (edited but not filmed by me).
